WEB-BASED ORDERING SYSTEM
Lab Express Corporation uses a web-enabled Lab Information System (LIS) which allows healthcare providers to manage and access patient data seamlessly, optimizing processes from sample collection to result reporting. Through a user-friendly portal, patients and healthcare providers can input demographic information, order lab tests, and retrieve results, thus improving access, accuracy, and communication. The system provides a secure interface for entering patient demographic data, including name, age, gender, contact information, and medical history. This data entry can be performed either by healthcare staff at the point of care or directly by patients through a self-service portal, minimizing errors and accelerating administrative tasks.
Authorized healthcare providers can use the portal to order tests directly. Tests are linked to patient demographic information, ensuring that lab results are always accurately associated with the right patient. Additionally, the system could support custom test panels, simplifying the process for routine tests or bundled testing requests. Once a test is ordered, the LIS assists lab technicians in labeling, managing, and tracking samples throughout the testing process. This tracking system minimizes the risk of sample loss or misidentification and provides real-time status updates to healthcare providers.
The LIS is interfaced with lab instruments, automating result entry where possible and allowing manual input where necessary. After lab personnel verify results, the data is stored in the patient's secured electronic record and is accessible through the lab and web portal. Authorized users, including healthcare providers and patients, can securely log into the portal to view lab results. Results are often presented in an easy-to-read format, including normal reference ranges and alert indicators for any abnormal findings. High and low values are presented at the very top to highlight their importance on patient health status. Patients can also receive educational materials about their test results, providing context and guidance. Lastly, the system uses encrypted connections and authentication protocols, ensuring compliance with healthcare data regulations like HIPAA.
